Every single device that's connected to the web has a special identifier referred to as IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computer systems, web servers, smartphones, switches, etc. The pool of IPs, which was introduced originally, has been distributed, so the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are progressively being replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name which opens a site comes with an IP record, which is the address of the server where it's hosted. Using the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is made up of four sets of numbers from 1 to 255 separated by a dot, while with the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it consists of 8 groups of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this kind of records use digits from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. An illustration of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format is designed for a substantially larger amount of IPs compared with the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Shared Hosting
If you use a service with a third-party provider and you need to set up an AAAA record to direct a domain address or a subdomain to their system, you'll be able to do that with just a couple of mouse clicks through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all our shared hosting plans. As soon as you log in, you will need to visit the DNS Records section where you are going to find all records for any domain or subdomain hosted inside the account. Creating a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, choosing the type from a drop-down options menu, which will be AAAA in this case, and then inputting the value, or the actual IPv6 address, within a text box. As an additional option you are able to change the TTL value (Time To Live), which defines how long the record is going to be active after you edit it or remove it in the future. The new AAAA record will be live in only an hour and will propagate worldwide a few hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start directing to the new server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you've got a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to create an AAAA record for a domain you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks inside the Hepsia Control Panel to do that. Even though you may have never had a hosting account before, you will not encounter any issues because you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All of the DNS records for your domain names will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the same name, so as soon as you go there, you'll see all records which have been created automatically or manually and you'll be able to create a new one by simply clicking the corresponding button. A small pop-up will appear, so with a few mouse clicks you can select the type of record that you need and for which domain or subdomain it's going to be created. Afterwards, just paste the IPv6 address in a text box, save the modification and one hour later the new AAAA record is going to be 100% live. As an optional setting, you can choose the length of time this record will be active after you change it or erase it in the future. This is actually the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the standard 3600 seconds in case the other company requires it.
