Password Protected Directories
Find out how to set up a protected and user-only area in your web site with password-protected directories.
If you want to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you could enable password protection for a particular folder - either the primary site folder or any other one below it. Whenever this feature is turned on, a pop-up will appear each and every time somebody attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login information will be required for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg if you have secured the domain.com folder. If the credentials are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there's no method of getting around this restriction, so you can rest assured that nobody will be able to access the shielded content. The feature could be beneficial in numerous cases - if only some people need to be able to see certain files, if you are building a site and you do not want people to see it before it's completed, etc.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting
If you use any of our
shared hosting products, you can make password-protected areas without difficulty even if you don't have any experience with such matters. We've built in a very easy-to-use point-and-click tool in the Hepsia CP, provided with all accounts, so you will be able to shield any folder within a matter of seconds. You will simply have to choose a domain or a subdomain and the particular folder which has to be secured (the primary one or a subfolder), and then to input the preferred username and password that'll be used to access the folder in question in the future. Each and every protected folder shall have padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you shall be able to see easily what content is protected and what's not. When necessary, you can create several different sets of login details for exactly the same folder.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
You shall be able to set up password protection for any content that you have inside your
semi-dedicated server account. We've included an easy-to-use tool to the Hepsia website hosting Control Panel via which you will be able to activate the function with a few mouse clicks and with no complications, even if you are not really tech-savvy. You will simply need to choose the hostname (domain or subdomain), the specific folder which should be secured (the primary folder or a subfolder) plus the login name and password. The protection shall take effect at once, so if you try to open the password-protected URL inside your Internet browser, you will have to input the newly created login details before you proceed. Additionally, you'll be able to give different usernames for the same folder to a number of individuals, so you will not have to share the same login details with anybody. Any password-protected folder will have a little padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you'll be able to recognize this kind of folders easily.
